Supervision of legal work in legal aid programs traditionally has been accomplished
through review of paper case files and programs have considered their case management
systems (CMS) as a place to store data needed for grant reports. With this in mind,
MIE put together a team of supervisors from across the country to explore ways the
CMS can be used to facilitate excellence in supervision. The result is MIE's new Guide to
Using Case Management Systems to Support High-Quality Supervision. The Guide is a self-assessment
tool that encourages programs to look at how they currently use their CMS and explore
additional ways it can be used to support supervision. It assists in the development
of an "Action Plan" of steps the program can implement almost immediately to improve
its use of the CMS in supervision.
